Photographically illustrated walking guide to historic East Wemyss, a scenic coastal village sited near and associated with the famous Wemyss Caves (see Guide to Wemyss Caves) and with the historic Macduff Castle sited above.
Explains how local industries once included fishing and how weaving grew to become the chief industry until overtaken by coal mining, the latter industries lasting into the late 20th century.
Industrial archaeology includes a ruined gas works sited at the eastern end of the caves site and bears testimony to the ravages of coastal erosion.
Other buildings and places of interest noted en route include the old church of St Mary’s-by-the-Sea, now a private dwelling, and where the village war Memorial is sited. Includes route map.
