At the start of the year, SWACS were granted money by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust – Scotland for the installation of three picnic tables and an interpretation board at the caves.
It’s taken a while to prepare the works but we’re delighted to let you know that the signage and first table are now in place outside Court Cave. Further tables will go in over the next few weeks near Macduff Castle and on Castle Green.
The table at Court Cave has an extended top to allow for wheelchairs. In future we hope to run a new path from the existing Fife Coastal Path past the table and into the side entrance to the cave, allowing wheelchair users and those with mobility difficulties to visit the carvings inside.
The tables and signage are made from recycled plastic (saving 10,000 two-pint milk containers from landfill), are extremely tough and will not rot.
We hope the new facilities will prove useful for many years for local people and visitors alike to add to their enjoyment of this historically valuable stretch of coast.
