“The Picts are a long-held fascination for me and I have visited many sites to gain as much knowledge and inspiration as I can in order to bring them to people’s attention. In particular, I use social media to raise the Pictish flag (a fine stylised boar on a white background) and with 210,000 followers and 1.4 million ‘likes’ on TikTok (fergusart) and all of my content aimed at overseas people, I spend several hours a day answering questions and raising awareness. Most people I engage with had no prior knowledge of anything Pictish before I enlightened them. It is all very pleasing. The paintings (not prints) in this collection are a sideline for me as I generally paint seascapes. If I’d stuck with the Pictish theme, I’d have starved twenty years ago. The paintings here are all framed but I DO produce them as wall-hangings that can be rolled up and posted. Most of these go to America with a few taken by people in Australia too. Kelpies all over the world!”
