This 40-page illustrated booklet was written by local author Mary Cameron in 1987.  In her  Introduction Mary wrote:
“This booklet was written with the intention of being an introduction to the history of Kirkland.  It outlines the development of Kirkland from a pastoral churchland to an industrial centre.  In the present day we see how quickly redevelopment takes place and lose sight very early of our history.  The booklet was written with the hope that it will act as a reminder to those still alive who remember and help to record more local information before it is lost.”
