In preparation for the installation of the protective grilles, the site was surveyed with a view to identifying any instability around the caves and potential hazards that needed to be addressed. One source of concern was the state of the containing wall above Court Cave and the trees that were growing there. The remedial work necessary has now been carried out – a local company was employed for the task – and as a result everything is now looking safer and more secure.
Elsewhere on site, the path leading from the Fife Coastal Path down to Jonathan’s Cave will be improved with drainage and steps to make it less steep in some places. At the moment this can be impassable after heavy rain and the improvements will provide all-weather access down to the caves for users of the coastal path.
