Pictish hearth at the museum

This summer many SWACS members joined the excavations on East Lomond to help uncover the story of the Picts in Fife. The hearth pictured in this excellent article needed to be removed, after it had been carefully recorded and documented, in order to reach the earlier archaeological levels beneath. It will however now live on! By kind permission of Falkland Estate and Northern Picts, we persuaded volunteers to help us carry the stones down the hill and it will be reassembled next year in the garden of our museum in East Wemyss for visitors to see what a genuine Pictish hearth was like.
